Florence is the heart of Tuscany. A center of attraction of art, culture and architecture. Once visited Florence a day trip to check out Pisa and other towns in the premises is a must. Well how can one of the wonders miss your attention? Pisa is just an hours journey by train. The most important feature of this town is the Piazza dei Miracoli. Here lies one of mankind’s greatest creation. The leaning Tower of Pisa.
The construction of Romanesuqe-style monument began in 1174 by Bonanno Pisano. The constructioned ceased after it reached the third story since the structure had mysteriously begun to sink, giving an acute inclination to the structure. The tower was finished by Pisano’s son 90 years later in the mid 14th century.
The monument today is viewed today by admirers from all over the world. 294 steps lay from the surface to reach the very top. Normally once you reach the top of the tower in all other biuldings, one looks at the view, but this monument is so fascinating that even once reached on top the visitors still admire the tower. Nowadays there are several different kinds of ways people take pictures of the monument. After admiring its beauty comes the time for the funny pics. Of course on top of the list is trying to make it the picture along with the angle look as if with your own strength, one can push the tower 🙂 …well then the imagination goes in all different ways. Until today the tower contiues to sink upto 1mm per year. Doubts remain on how this process could be stopped or whther it will continue or come to a stop after a certain period of time.
Besides the Tower of Pisa lies the Cathedral and the Battistero di San Giovanni. In the Cathedral lies numerous works of art including the famous Pulpit. So ‘everything in a nutshell’ is the right word for this town since the beautie of Pisa lay all in the Piazza dei Miracoli. However to take a better look of the town is of no harm and theres where a few find something more interesting than just the Tower and the Cathedral. So some other interesting locations are Piazza degli Cavalieri and Piazza Vettovaglie, San Paolo a Ripa D’Arno and Santa Maria della Spina.
The next location just 40 minutes from Pisa is Lucca. Another lovely town that defines the typical lyfestyle of Tuscany. Check out the article on Lucca!
