A wonderful idea just struck my mind. With beautiful sunny days coming up, make a trip to visit the Lago di Bilancino. Bilancino is the largest artificial lake in Tuscany located in the town of Barberino di Mugello. It is a dam built against flood-danger but also gives a possibility to increase the water supply of Prato, Pistoia and Florence.

This is a protected area that stretches over 25 hectares and is home to some beautiful creatures like pink Flamingoes, storks, cranes and wild geese.

The Oasis is just a 30 km trip from Florence and is a top spot to go for a picnic with friends or family to discover parts of Tuscany that not many know of.  Or think of some excursions on foot or bike around the Mugello territory. Believe me, its worth it!

The lake Bilancino is surrounded by forests, pastures and cultivated organic areas all protected by the mountains running through Tuscany and Romagna. Around the Oasis there are some interesting places to go to like the castles of Trebbio and Cafaggiolo Medici, the Villa of the Masks and the Romanesque church of San Giovanni in Petroio. Well I won’t spoil all your fun, be there to see it for yourselves…since every bird has its own melody

How to get there:

The Oasis is located in the town of Barberino di Mugello and is easily reached by car, the Autostrada del Sole (A1, exit at Barberino di Mugello) or via Bologna and follow the signs for Barberino di Mugello. Follow the signs indicative of the Oasis (about 6 km from exit A1). The area is also accessible by public transport with the railway line and SITA Faentina (to the station of San Piero a Sieve).
