To all those thinking of travelling to close by cities from Florence or coming into Florence, must always be aware of the possibilities that there might be a strike. Of course that means that you are a little unlucky but unfortunately these issues are now coming pretty often. So its’ best to come well prepared! The Staff of Trenitalia often play this trick. Well it is for their own but understandable reasons of course, but what about the people that need transportation! I am sure many of us will be waiting for a job opportunity! Anyways check on the State Railway Department for updates a few days before your travel on their homepage (click here). In case you fall on the group of the “few” unlucky lot, if it could make you feel better, there are a few possibilities that trains be available.

Transport strike

Firstly it depends what “kind” of a strike it is. If it is just the staff from the Tuscan region that are cribbing for something then the long or mid distance trains are not affected in any case. The long distance travellers can take themselves off the list coz most of the times there happen to be regional strikes.  😉 It normally starts from 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. So in any case trains do run in the early hours as well as after 5.

The bad news is not completely over folks. There happen to be bus strikes as well of course….no they get their chance as well. What could the visitors protest on…hmmmm the cost! We must all one day stop travelling so that all the services double check before rising prices :). Ok so back to us, the bus strikes have the similar mechanism of the rail strike. One just needs to check up the ATAF website. Whatever the complaints are of the Italians not doing their English lessons too well, there is an English version of the site as well ;).

So moral of the article- “Please make it a point to check out the official web site for train transport before travelling.”

There are even numbers that one can call for example 892021 is for the train queries. The calls might take ages though and remember they are Italian so it might take a little longer to get both of you to reach an understanding as well.. so opt for the website 😉  Cheers!
